A very nice perk for New Yorkers and visitors. If you are visiting New York and only have time for one museum, this would probably be your first choice, as there is something for everyone here. Bring your PwC photo ID for free admission for you and a guest. Otherwise, the museum has a suggested admission price, and although you can give less, it does give you a nice glow to waltz in for free and fully justified! This is one of the worlds great museums, with an amazingly extensive permanent collection and a wide range of changing, temporary exhibits. Go to their website, http://www.metmuseum.org, to see their hours as well as the current exhibits, or decide which of the permanent exhibits you and your guest might like to focus on. There are restaurants and gift shops in the museum, too. Another possibility, probably on a separate day, would be to visit the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan. That branch has medieval art and architecture, all situated in beautiful gardens; their information is also on the website. On a personal note, I would encourage parents to bring their children to the museum and let them explore their interests; probably best to go during the week when it is quieter. As a child, I was fascinated by the medieval knights in armor, and by the Egyptian funerary exhibits. My tastes have changed to painting, sculpture, and the Costume Institute, but I had gotten the idea early that museums were fun and fascinating places to visit. less
